Skagit Valley Rocketry #719

Hello everyone,

I am pleased to announce a new rocket club in Washington State. Without having a club close so that we could attend meeting more often, Steve and Ryan Buettner, Dave Ebersole, Carol Walery, Robert Nech, Tom VanEtten and I started talking about starting a new club. So, we came up with Skagit Valley Rocketry NAR section number 719. Talking with Tom Snell and Kent Newman, we all agreed that it would be a good move for us to file for our own waiver at Mansfield. This will be filed soon.

Dave and I have been busy pounding the pavement looking for launch sites on this side of the mountain, and we are hoping the one we have found will pan out. We wanted to wait until we had our section number and all before we approached the land owner. We will be doing that here soon, we already checked out air traffic and that looks good and there is a lot of surrounding fields.

So, a lot of great things has been happening up north. For starters we started a new club, and we have a new hobby store that carries a lot of kits, scratch built products, electronics and motors. We also will have a web store you can order from soon. Since buying Patrick Waite’s cutters for making centering rings, bulk plates and custom orders will be added to the list our store will be able to have available for you to order from too. We are adding more and more products all the time so be sure to check out the hobby store it is located at:

Skagit Lapidary Supply/Skagit Rocketry
314 Myrtle Street
Mount Vernon, WA 98273
360-336-3533

If you haven’t been by, come check it out! We will be working on what day we will have meetings and they will for now be held at Dave’s store (address above). While you are there you can pick up stuff you may be needing. We are still working out the details of the club and we will be posting more as we get things worked out and in motion.

We hope to be able to work with the community and help kids get into rocketry, because our kids are our future. And it will be our kids that will keep space flight alive.

Thank you,
John Hawkins
